Swiss vote down animal lawyers

Swiss voters rejected a proposal that would have allowed animals to have legal representation.

The country has extremely detailed animal welfare laws, and proponents of the measure wanted to make sure the laws were enforceable. In Zurich, animals are allowed to have lawyers, and the proposed law would have extended the privilege to all Swiss critters. However, in a weekend vote, about 70 percent of voters voted against it, the Associated Press reported.
